This 8’6” x 10’ Antique Flatweave Soumak Rug unfolds like a woven story, its hand-spun wool threads carrying the legacy of the Caucasus across generations. The deep indigo field forms a night-sky canvas for latticed medallions, while golden ochre and ivory motifs bloom like desert flowers under starlight. Each line and curve is the echo of a weaver’s rhythm, capturing the cadence of life on the steppe.
The Soumak technique, with its weft-wrapping method, creates a subtle relief that feels like an embroidered tapestry beneath the fingers. Here, the raised motifs glide over a textured ground, their angular blossoms and hooked forms whispering of protection, prosperity, and the patterns of nature. The borders form a sanctuary, repeating tribal symbols like talismans guarding the heart of the rug, their symmetry a dance of memory and intention.
Time has softened the colors into a harmony that only age can orchestrate—indigo breathing into slate, ochre into honey, and ivory into a warm, time-worn glow. In a room, this Soumak rug does more than cover a floor; it anchors the space in history, inviting both the eye and the soul to wander its pathways. Each step across its surface is a quiet conversation with the past, a reminder that true beauty is woven, not made.
This antique rug displays areas of previous repair, which are a natural sign of its age and history. These characteristics contribute to its unique charm and authenticity. Please note that due to the item’s vintage nature, the sale is final and it is being sold as-is.
